In this year's country focus, femme totale is presenting films by Brazilian women directors. Let the cameras roll for historical films such as O EBRIO (Gilda de Abreu, Braz, 1946) - a première for Germany - and the thriller comedy EIN FALL FÜR DIE POLIZEI (1956) directed by Carla Civelli and now getting its first screening outside Brazil. It was only recently that a copy was rediscovered and restored. Glauce Rocha plays a fanatical reader of detective stories who stumbles across a supposed murder plot. Needless to say, she sets out intrepidly to turn the murderer in. At the centre of our Focus on Brazil are works by independent committed women directors whose films find expressive images for the life in Brazil. Festivalguests are: Deborah Waldman, Paula Alves, Lucia Murat,
Alice Gonzaga, Marcia Paraiso, Tizuka Yamasaki, Lais Bodanski and
Tata Amaral.
