International Women's Film Festival Dortmund | Cologne

17th – 22th April 2007

The festival has developed out of the women's film festivals femme totale (Dortmund) and Feminale (Cologne) and is now taking place yearly, alternating between Dortmund and Cologne. The extensive programme features not only international competitions but also about 100 films – both current and historic – made by women.

In 2007, the festival in Dortmund focuses on music as its main topic.

» FOCUS 2007: MUSIC
How do women filmmakers deal with music, sound and rhythm in form and content? In films concerning the topic music plays many roles: music as a political statement, a song as the key to memories, portraits of musicians, rhythmic video experiments.

» SPECIALIST OFFERS
A series of workshops, specialist talks, “master” classes and seminars (organised by and for women musicians and directors) will be dealing with topics such as film-music composition and sound in the making of documentaries, feature films and music videos.

» SPECIALS
The festival programme this year reaches far beyond the screen. In addition to an extensive international film programme concerning the topic MUSIC and an accompanying workshop programme the IFFF Dortmund | Cologne offers numerous specials. For example many live performances, which were in some cases produced exclusively for the festival and which reflect the thematic facets of the film programme.

» COMPETITIONS
Beside the thematic focus, two international competitions are being held in Dortmund.

There are eight international feature films which compete for the International Feature Film Award for Women Directors with the total prize money of 25.000 Euro, donated by the RWE Westfalen-Weser-Ems AG.

The purpose of the Camera Award is to foster young talents. The only German award for young women directors of photography includes prize money of 5,000 Euro.

» FILM EDUCATION
Special film programmes for children and teenagers and media training for girls.
