The festival programme this year
reaches far beyond the screen. We present concerts and performances
which bring out the interfaces of picture, sound and cinematic
narration and which create a whole new experience of the cooperation of
film and music for the audience.

Maria Mitchell and Terry Jenoure celebrate the triumphs and struggles of Josephine Baker in words, dance and live music.

Minimalistic concert by Ulrike Haage and Angelika Niescier
A first encounter between
Ulrike Haage (piano) and Angelika Niescier from Cologne, saxophonist
and composer. The outcome is not foreseeable, everything can happen. An

get into the right mood for Ornette: Made in America.

Ulrike Haage was the first woman and
youngest prize-winner ever to be awarded the German Jazz Prize for her
many-sided and transgressing work and her music at the interface of
pop, art and avant-garde. In Dortmund, she is in charge of a workshop
for women film makers and musicians. Haage approaches film from the
musical side with her personal ideas of sound, words and pictures.

Petra Dolleman’s and Peter J. A. van Bergen’s performance
is an improvisation with both sounds and images: the musical
improvisations of van Bergen (clarinet, saxophone and electronic
sounds) are Dolleman’s source of inspiration for her creative
work with prepared images (photography, drawings, animations, video) as
well as live drawings and recordings.
