Participation details

Submissions and presentation can take different routes ...

  • Sheet music
At the actual presentation, a piano will be available for the entrants. If you submit a complete soundtrack, there will be a chance to play this on the piano as the film runs. If the score is to be fitted to individual scenes, then a list of timecodes will be necessary beforehand.

  • Audiofile on CD with trackmarks (!)
Please note that, due to the actual technical set-up, it will not be possible to play certain scenes and the audio CD at the same time. If exact concordance between image and sound is required, then entrants are advised to submit a DVD.

  • DVD (film+ music)
if the soundtrack is a completely new composition or if certain scenes have to be scored with high precision.

Each entry must include the sheet music or a full score with an exact description of (i) which filmic figures, moods and scenes go with which sections of music, and (ii) exact details of instrumentation ideas if the compositions are to be presented via the piano.

The presentation itself can be given (a) in the form of individual motifs assigned to the figures and the scenes or (b) in the form of a complete soundtrack. Entrants will have the opportunity of explaining their ideas during the actual "pitch" and of responding to questions during the audience discussion.

The event as a whole will be chaired by Angelika Niescier, the saxophonist and composer. We are already looking forward to a lively and insightful discussion!

Final date for the submission of sheet music, CDS or DVDs is 5 April 2007.
