At the Oscar awards ceremony held every year, female directors continue to receive little attention. Are the skills needed to make a major film really and truly restricted to the male species? No way. Since 2005 the International Women’s Film Festival found an appropriate way to honour women's film-directing: For the second time, it is presenting an award – endowed with €25,000 and kindly sponsored by the RWE Westfalen-Weser-Ems AG – for the best international woman director of a feature film. As a counterpart to the International Debut Competition at the Cologne festival, the aim here ist to distinguish the work of women directors who can already look back on a longer career in films.
A total of eight highly topical films from eight different countries have is going to be judged by an independent international jury. The spectrum ranges from politically committed film to grand emotional narrative cinema. Look forward to impressive images, well-told tales, incredibly good acting performances as well as intriguing discussions with the directors themselves who will be on hand in Dortmund to present their films personally.
