"In my opinion,
the American sex industry supplies products made by men for men. I want
to show films made by women for their own pleasure". (M.M. Serra).
The independent New
York artist M.M. Serra has put together two programmes for the Festival.
Since 1991, she has been the executive director of the New American Cinema
Group / the Film-Makers' Cooperative which was founded in 1961 by a group
of 22 New York artists including Jonas Mekas, Shirley Clarke, Robert Frank,
Jack Smith and Andy Warhol. The FMC is the oldest and most important international
distribution company of independent, experimental, underground films and
videos.

For Dortmund, Serra has chosen works by women film directors from the
American avantgarde film scene of the last 30 years, films which examine
desire and the representation of female sexuality. Including Carolee Schneemann's
FUSES (1964- 68), the first explicitly feminist erotic film ever, and
Barbara Hammer's DYKETACTICS (1973), one of the first experimental films
concerning lesbian erotic at a time when homosexuality was illegal in
the USA: The films on show reveal a wide range of sexual proclivities,
experiences and fantasies whilst constantly searching for new forms of
expression.
