Beyond the Rocks

This programme is starring some rare treasures of the history of silent film. The works show impressively that “those days” are not that far away from today: The films from the beginning of cinema are cheeky, ironic or tragic. We screen films which were considered to be lost with live music accompaniment.

The IFFF Dortmund | Cologne is proud to present the launch of the nationwide project Language of Love. Asta Nielsen, her Cinema, her Films 1920 – 1933 by the Kinothek Asta Nielsen. We are going to present the musical premières of the tragedy Der fremde Vogel (The Strange Bird) and the comedy Zapatas Bande (Zapata’s Gang) with the composition of Maud Nelissen and her ensemble “The Asta Harmonists”.
