SOUND & FILM MUSIC Workshop Programme

Discussion and workshops | pitching strategies for women film-makers and musicians

Many film directors find choosing suitable music for the film and/or developing an ideal sound(track) not too easy. Time and money are often tightly calculated and agreeing a common language is difficult. Which is why the this year's International Women's Film Festival Dortmund¦Cologne – taking place in April and dedicated to the theme of music – will be offering a supporting programme aimed at women musicians, composers, directors and producers. The programme is organised in the form of practical workshops and seminars, will cover topics dealing with film composition, sound design and silent movie music and include a film music pitching event. Guest speakers are the well-known composers Sonja Wieder-Atherton, Ulrike Haage and Maud Nelissen.

The following workshops will be held in English.

Call for entries: Pitching film music
Short presentations of film-music to a specialist audience

Within the framework of a pitching event, the festival organisers are inviting women musicians and film-makers to present their work during the actual festival in Dortmund. There is a choice of starting material: the documentary film Unterm Zelt (14 min.) directed by Sibylle Stürmer and/or the screenplay to the feature film In the Milk by Nathalie Percillier. For Natalie's film, the organisers are also looking for a song. Any musicians interested in taking part in the pitch can register now and get a copy of the film or of the screenplay. The presentation can be made in the form of individual motifs assigned to individual figures or scenes. Alternatively, entrants may present an entire soundtrack.

The event as a whole is presented by composer Angelika Niescier.
Final date for the submission of sheet music, CDs or DVDs is 5 April 2007.
